How the ladder works…
Singles Ladder
Signups begin on June 17, 2023.
See form below.
Ladder play begins on July 1, 2024 and will run through December 31, 2024.
Prizes to the ladder champ and the male and female players with most matches.
This is a coed ladder. You do not need a USTA or UTR rating to play. In the form below, just give us some idea about your level of play.
The ladder will run from July 1 until December 31st. At the end of this session, a ladder champ and the player with most matches will be rewarded by CTA.
You can join the ladder at any time during the season by filling out the form.
During the ladder session, a ranked list of players will be on the Singles Ladder Results page.
Matches are best of three sets, with the third set being a Super Tie Break (first to 10 points by 2). Log your results on the Singles Ladder Results page.
Challenge Rules
You can challenge any player two positions above in the rankings (for example: Player 10 can challenge Players 9 and 8) Use the HMB Tennis GroupMe app to direct message to your opponent. If you win, you take the loser’s place in the rankings. Everyone drops down one position, as a result. For example, players 5, 6 and 7 in the rankings and player 7 challenges 5 and wins. The new rankings would be (based on old number) 7, 5, 6.
You cannot challenge any player below you in the rankings.
Players cannot schedule more than two matches at a time. A third or subsequent challenger can request to be on the challenged player’s waitlist.
If a player challenges another player and loses, they may not challenge that same player for two weeks, or until the challenged player has played someone else, whichever comes first.
If there is no reply to the GroupMe ask in seven days, you can log the challenge as a No Reply. No Reply can be indicated on the Singles Ladder Results page.
In general, if you do not schedule a match from a challenger within one week you will drop two positions in the rankings. The exceptions are:
If you are challenged and you just played a match, you can schedule the new match within 2 weeks. If you can’t meet this requirement, contact the ladder administrator (we’ll figure something out).
If there are mitigating circumstances (work, family, injury, etc), contact the ladder administrator and your place in the rankings will be frozen (an asterisk will be added to your name in the rankings) until you’re able to play again. A challenger should challenge the next player in the rankings when they see the asterisk.
Any player who does not participate for 2 months will be removed from the ladder, even Number 1 in the ladder. You can rejoin the ladder.
This is for fun! If you have a situation which doesn’t makes sense within this framework, contact the ladder administrator.
Courts may not be reserved for ladder matches. Check the court schedule for availability. CTA will provide a light token. Contact president@coastsidetennis.org to arrange or message Margie Gater on the HMB GroupMe App.
